Help Women Lead Healthier and Safer Lives

Women affected by the criminal justice system are experiencing increased violence and homelessness. The Benedict Center not only provides healing services like counseling, but we also help navigate complex systems to obtain basic human needs like housing.

Jasmin’s story illustrates your gift in action.

Jasmin struggles with substance use and chronic mental health issues. She has a history of complex trauma, homelessness and multiple incarcerations for her involvement in the street-based sex trade. Jasmin connected to our Women’s Reentry Program when she was incarcerated at the Milwaukee County House of Correction (HOC).

Early in the pandemic, the HOC had to act fast and closed the women’s dorm, issueing early releases for most women, including Jasmin. After her release, Jasmin reconnected with the Reentry Staff, who continued to support her in the community.

Jasmin was homeless again. Because of Covid, Jasmin residential treatment services and shelters were not taking new residents. We provided an emergency hotel voucher, connected her to pschiatric treatment, medication, and other resources.Staff began daily wellness checks to ensure her safety and provide support.

Jasmin needed housing to be successful in her recovery, but how? With the Benedict Center’s navigation and strategic partnerships with housing services, Jasmin qualified for a Rapid Rehousing Voucher to live in her own apartment.Jasmin has a safe, stable home, at last!

Women like Jasmin succeed because of their own hard-won resilience and supporters of the Benedict Center who make our services and advocacy possible.

Will you make a gift today to help more women like Jasmin receive treatment, a safe place to call home, and long-term recovery support?

Thank you in advance for your contribution to further our mission.
